Mount Zion Prayer Β· Jerusalem
We print your prayer and carry it to the Abbey of the Dormition on Mount Zion, just outside the Old City walls, and email you a dated photograph of your prayer at the Abbey.
Christian tradition remembers Mount Zion as the place where the Virgin Mary "fell asleep" at the end of her earthly life.
The Abbey's round church and tall bell tower, completed in 1910, are visible across the city.
Many visitors bring prayers for mothers, children and families to this peaceful place.
The Abbey of the Dormition crowns Mount Zion, near the Zion Gate of the Old City. "Dormition" means "falling asleep", and the church honours the tradition that Mary, the mother of Jesus, ended her earthly life here.
Inside, a crypt holds a statue of Mary at rest, surrounded by chapels given by many countries. Pilgrims often come here to pray for their mothers, for their children and for peace in their homes.
You can send your own prayer to the Abbey. We print it on paper, carry it to Mount Zion and send you a dated photograph of your prayer at the Abbey of the Dormition.
